Will Grigg on target as Chesterfield beat Barnet to pull 23 points clear at top
The Spireites scored either side of half-time at the Hive.
Goals from Michael Jacobs and substitute Will Grigg sent Chesterfield 23 points clear at the top of the Vanarama National League after their 2-0 win in a top-of-the-table clash with Barnet.
Jacobs passed up an early opportunity for the visitors when he dragged his shot wide from Armando Dobra’s backheeled pass, but the home side were denied by the goal frame when Harry Pritchard’s looping header came back off the bar.
In the event, it was the Spireites who took a 29th-minute lead when Bailey Clements ran on to Jamie Grimes’ ball over the top and crossed for Jacobs to score.
Callum Stead and Pritchard both threatened for the hosts as they tried to work their way back into the game after the restart, but neither was able to hit the target.
But the game was over with 10 minutes remaining when Grigg struck after good work by Tom Naylor to wrap up the points.
