Liverpool are unlikely to be busy in the transfer window this month, with Arne Slot happy with the options at his disposal.

Arne Slot is content with Liverpool's squad and does not expect a busy January transfer window, though the Premier League leaders will continue to monitor the market.

Liverpool have made a stunning start to the Slot era, only losing one of their 28 matches across all competitions this season (23 wins, four draws).

They hold a six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table and are in contention to win an unprecedented quadruple, with Tottenham their opponents in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

Liverpool were quiet in the transfer market ahead of the season, only bringing in Federico Chiesa – who has only played four games – and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was immediately loaned back to Valencia.

Asked if Liverpool were actively looking for reinforcements at Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Slot told reporters: "It would be a bit weird if I said during the summer break that we are very happy with the team then tell you something completely different now.

"But you always look at the market, this club has always looked at the market. I think we did this with the goalkeeper we don't even have at the moment.

"If there is a chance in the market this club always tries to bring that chance in, but the team is in a good place.

"Unfortunately, Joe Gomez is injured [and] that means we go from four centre-backs back to three, but he will be back in a few weeks so I am very happy with the team.

"I think they deserve that trust from the club and from me, if you look at the performances they have put in over the last half-season."

EFL Cup holders Liverpool have progressed from seven of their last nine semi-final ties in the competition and could reach successive finals for the first time since a run of four between 1981 and 1984.

Liverpool's 23 victories in all competitions this season are at least four more than any other team from Europe's top five leagues (Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have 19 each), while only Barcelona (76), Chelsea (73) and Bayern Munich (72) have bettered their 70 goals.

Slot was unwilling to say whether his side are performing at a higher level than Jurgen Klopp's team did in 2023-24, though he thinks their displays have been in line with their results.

"It's very difficult for me to compare last season with this season," Slot said. "The only thing I do know is until now we haven't stolen one point.

"All the points we've got were fully deserved. I think even in some moments we deserved more than we got when we dropped points.

"That is the best forecast you can have for the second half of the season. I don't know how that was last season, if all the results were as expected or fully deserved, or if there were a few lucky moments as well.

"What I do know is this season all the points we've got and all the results we've got were deserved, in my opinion."
