Amorim believes Garnacho has future at Man Utd
Ruben Amorim said that Alejandro Garnacho has a future at Manchester United despite not featuring regularly for the club in recent weeks.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has said that Alejandro Garnacho has a future at Old Trafford despite being linked with a move away from the Premier League club.
The 20-year-old Argentina winger is reportedly attracting interest from Serie A side Napoli as they look to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to complete a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
Garnacho has scored three goals in 19 Premier League matches this season, but has not started in any of United's last five league fixtures.
However, he returned to the starting line-up in their FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal as United held out with 10 men for a 1-1 draw in extra time before winning the penalty shootout - his first start in over a month.
And United boss Amorim insisted the attacker is still part of his plans.
Asked whether Garnacho has a future at the club, Amorim said: "That is clear. He has talent. He's finding the best way to play in this system. He's improving during training.
"He started the last game. Let's see [against Southampton]. I think he changed the way he sees himself."
United, who sit 15th in the table and only seven points clear of the relegation zone, will welcome bottom side Southampton to Old Trafford on Thursday.
"He needs to learn to play in a different position," Amorim explained further.
"He needs to play better inside. He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn't have the ball.
"But doing that, sometimes he's not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past. I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to reach the final third."
Garnacho bagged seven goals and four assists during the 2023-24 Premier League season - his best returns for the Red Devils.
