Gasperini announced as new Roma head coach
Gian Piero Gasperini left Atalanta after nine years last week and will take over Roma, who finished fifth in the 2024-25 Serie A table.
Gian Piero Gasperini has been announced as Roma's new head coach, signing a three-year contract.
Roma had been looking for a new permanent head coach since going through Daniele De Rossi, Ivan Juric and Claudio Ranieri in the 2024-25 campaign, with the latter retiring at the end of the season.
Gasperini, meanwhile, left his previous club Atalanta on May 31 after a nine-year spell in charge in Bergamo.
The 67-year-old led La Dea to six top-four finishes in Serie A, while they also won the 2023-24 Europa League, with a 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
That success represented just the second major trophy in the club's history, and their first since winning the Coppa Italia in 1963. Under Gasperini, Atalanta lost three Coppa Italia finals, losing to Lazio in 2019 and Juventus in 2021 and 2024.
In total, Gasperini was in charge of 439 games with Atalanta, winning 228, drawing 102 and losing 109 for a 51.9% win rate. They scored 852 goals in those matches, while conceding 513.
Gasperini comes into Roma, who narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification in 2024-25, finishing fifth, just one point behind fourth-placed Juventus.
