England swept aside Portugal 6-0 on Friday as Sarina Wiegman's side teed up a monumental Nations League clash with Spain.

Sarina Wiegman was delighted to return "back to business" after England thumped Portugal 6-0 in Friday's Nations League clash.

Aggie Beever-Jones played a starring role, scoring a first-half hat-trick on her Wembley Stadium debut, along with goals for Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly.

It capped a resounding response to a difficult week that saw England goalkeeper Mary Earps retire from international football, with Wiegman lauding the result.

"Of course, that is what we wanted. You go back to business and you want to show it on the pitch," Wiegman told ITV.

"It was an important game, we want to do well in the Nations League, we want to keep in the running to win it. We needed a win and it is really good to see the team showing up like this.

"There are always things to improve, but it is a good scoreline."

Spain beat Belgium 5-1 earlier on Friday, leaving it all to play for when the top two meet on Tuesday.

England will qualify for the Women's Nations League finals if they overcome Spain, who are two points clear at the top of Group A3.

"When we played Spain here, we dropped a little deeper, so we are going to review this and then make final decisions," Wiegman added.

"Spain is so tight on the ball and so smart, so you have to do that really well. We have not made that final decision yet, but I am really happy how the team did today."

Beever-Jones became the first England player to score a first-half hat-trick since Mead did so in a 20-0 win against Latvia in November 2021.

"Sarina said before the game it's a new kit, it's new England, we have a new squad," hat-trick hero Beever-Jones said to BBC Sport.

"We are the holders, and people want to come here and beat us and give us a bump in the road. For us, it's focusing on what we can control. We executed that really well."

As for the monumental clash coming up against Spain, she added: "To be the best, you have to beat the best. Spain are an incredible nation and will be a good challenge right before the Euros."
