RB Leipzig have paid over 50million to make Xavi Simons' stay in Germany permanent, having had him on loan for a season and a half.

Attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has joined RB Leipzig permanently after spending 18 months on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Netherlands international has signed a contract to keep him at Leipzig until 2027.

German media reports said the deal was worth over €50million plus significant add-ons.

"I have always emphasised that I feel very much at home in Leipzig and am honoured by the great appreciation I receive at the club," Simons said in a statement.

Simons joined PSG as a youth player in 2019 after seven years at Barcelona.

He made his senior debut for the French club in 2021 then moved to PSV the following year, before returning to PSG in 2023.

PSG sent Simons on loan to Leipzig shortly after his return. He scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in 32 games in his first season in the Bundesliga, and has four goals and three assists so far this term.

He has made 60 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and helping them win the DFL-Supercup in 2023.

"We want to qualify for the Champions League for the seventh time in a row and travel to Berlin for the DFB-Pokal final, that's all that matters now," Simons added.

Leipzig will face Wolfsburg in the Pokal quarter-finals later this month and currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga, behind fourth-placed Stuttgart on goal difference.
