Having just captured their third straight Frauen-Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich have announced Jose Barcala as their new head coach.

Jose Barcala has been appointed as the new head coach of Bayern Munich's women's side, following the departure of Alexander Straus.

Straus confirmed in April he would leave Bayern for National Women's Soccer League club Angel City FC, with his new role beginning on June 1.

He oversaw a third successive Bundesliga title success this campaign, with Bayern finishing eight points clear of closest rivals Wolfsburg.

As the Bavarian giants look to build on Straus' legacy, they have turned to Barcala, who is leaving Swiss side Servette to take the role on an initial two-year contract.

Barcala, who previously served as assistant manager for Scotland's national team, told the club's website: "I'm proud and honoured to become part of FC Bayern Munich.

"The club stands for top performance and great ambitions, which makes the task even more exciting. I'm really looking forward to this new chapter and can't wait to get started.

"We want to consolidate our position at the top of the women's Bundesliga in the future and also keep developing so we get closer to winning the Champions League."

Barcala's first Bundesliga game in charge will take place at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern confirming they will host their first home match of 2025-26 there.
